Arise and Make thy Bed
Arise and Make thy Bed
Today’s sermon is inspired by the words of Jesus in John 5:8: “Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.” These words were spoken to a man who had been lying by the pool of Bethesda for 38 years, waiting for someone to help him into the water for healing. But Jesus, seeing his faith, healed him with a single command and told him to take up his bed and walk.
This story teaches us a powerful lesson about the importance of taking action in our lives. Many of us, like the man at the pool of Bethesda, may be waiting for something to happen to us, waiting for someone else to solve our problems or waiting for circumstances to change. We may feel stuck in a rut, unable to move forward and make progress.
But Jesus’s command to the man to “arise, take up thy bed, and walk” shows us that we have the power to take action and make changes in our lives. We don’t have to wait for someone else to come along and help us. We can take control of our own lives and make the changes we need to move forward.
The command to “arise” is a call to action. It is a reminder that we need to get up and start moving if we want to make progress in our lives. We can’t expect things to change if we don’t take action ourselves. We need to be proactive and take steps towards our goals.
The command to “take up thy bed” is a reminder that we need to take responsibility for our own lives. We can’t rely on others to do things for us or to solve our problems. We need to take ownership of our own problems and take action to solve them.
Finally, the command to “walk” is a reminder that we need to keep moving forward, even when things get tough. We may encounter obstacles along the way, but we need to keep pushing forward towards our goals.
So, my dear brothers and sisters, let us take inspiration from the words of Jesus and take action in our lives. Let us arise, take up our beds, and walk towards the lives that we want to live. May God bless us all on our journeys. Amen
