The Faith to Walk on Water
The Faith to Walk on Water
Matthew 14:22-33
Introduction:
Have you ever felt like you were walking on water? Like you were doing something impossible, but you were succeeding because you had faith in God? That’s what Peter experienced when Jesus called him out of the boat to walk on the water.
Peter was a fisherman, so he knew a thing or two about water. He knew that it was dangerous and unpredictable. But when Jesus called him, he stepped out of the boat and onto the waves.
How did Peter have the faith to do such a thing?
First, he had a deep relationship with Jesus. He knew that Jesus was the Son of God and that he had the power to do anything. Second, Peter was obedient to Jesus. When Jesus told him to come, he went, even though it didn’t make sense. Third, Peter kept his eyes on Jesus. As long as he kept his focus on Jesus, he was able to walk on water.
What can we learn from Peter’s experience?
First, we learn that we can do anything through faith in Jesus Christ. There is no challenge too great for God to overcome. Second, we learn that we need to be obedient to Jesus. Even when his commands don’t make sense, we need to trust him and follow him. Third, we learn that we need to keep our eyes on Jesus. When we focus on him, he will give us the strength and courage to face any challenge.
Application:
Is there anything in your life that you’re afraid of? Is there a challenge that you’re facing that seems impossible to overcome? If so, I encourage you to step out of the boat and walk on water with Jesus. He will give you the faith you need to succeed.
Here are some practical ways to apply this message to your life:
- Spend time with Jesus every day. Read the Bible, pray, and worship him. The more you get to know Jesus, the more faith you will have in him.
- Obey Jesus’ commands. Even when they don’t make sense, trust him and follow him.
- Keep your eyes on Jesus. When you are facing challenges, focus on him and his promises.
Remember, there is nothing that you cannot do through faith in Jesus Christ. He is the God of the impossible. He can help you walk on water and overcome any challenge that you face.
