The Plague Will Not Come Near Me (Psalm 91:7)

Scripture: Psalm 91:7-13

Introduction:

Psalm 91 is a beautiful and powerful psalm about God’s protection. It begins with the psalmist declaring that he will dwell in the shelter of the Most High and abide in the shadow of the Almighty. He then goes on to say that God is his refuge and his fortress, his God in whom he trusts.

In verse 7, the psalmist makes a bold claim: “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” What does this mean?

It doesn’t mean that we will never face challenges or trials in life. In fact, the psalmist goes on to say that we will see the punishment of the wicked and the plague that destroys the wicked. But he assures us that no evil will befall us, and no scourge will come near our tent.

How can we be confident of this? Because God has commanded his angels concerning us, to guard us in all our ways. On their hands they will bear us up, so that we will not dash our foot against a stone.

What does this mean for us today?

It means that we can live in confidence and peace, knowing that God is with us and that he will protect us. We don’t have to be afraid of anything, because God is our refuge and our fortress.

Even when we are facing difficult circumstances, we can trust that God is working all things together for our good. He may allow us to go through trials and tribulations, but he will never leave us or forsake us.

Application:

Here are some practical ways to apply this message to your life:

  • Place your trust in God. He is your refuge and your fortress.
  • Don’t be afraid of anything. God is with you and he will protect you.
  • Trust God’s plan for your life. He is working all things together for your good.

When you are facing challenges, remember Psalm 91:7: “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” God is faithful and he will keep you safe.
